Siege Weapons[/u][/size]
Catapults - 2 for 450 gold
The Catapult is one of the most common siege weapons around. Ropes tighten and release to force the arm of the catapult to fire whatever missiles they can use with it. Commonly the Catapult was used with one large bolder or with more smaller rocks to cause it's damage. Attacking enemy formations can be damaging, but also inaccurate, so these are best used against enemy wall and gate defences.
Arbalest - 2 for 600 gold
The great Arbalest was first invented by Zhuge Liang. It can fire up to 5 bolts at the same time leading to mass destruction against enemy troop formations. Best used against troops and not defences as it does not hit hard against walls and gates. A good Arbalest unit can impale up to 5 men with a single bolt if they are standing in a tight formation.
Scorpion - 2 for 550 gold
Whilst the Arbalest fires 5 bolts at the same time, the Scorpion is fast firing. It can be re-loaded at a far quicker rate than the Arbalest and can fire further. This machine of war is perfect against enemy formations, and can be used to minimal effect against enemy defences.
Ballista - 2 for 600 gold
The Ballista was an ancient bow like weapon, similar in uses as the Scorpion, but the mechanics much different, it operates like a giant Crossbow, firing huge bolts into enemy structures and defences. This is a great way to take walls and gates down, it is relatively fast firing and can even be used effectively against enemy troops.
Flaming Arrow - 2 for 600 gold
Yet another bolt firing siege weapon. This weapon fires wooden bolts rather than metal, yet the wood is soaked in a type of oil which easily ignites and stays on fire all the way to it's target. It is useful against enemy troops, wooden structures and to a lesser extent enemy Walls and gates. It is very useful to start a fire attack.
Trebuchet - 2 for 800 gold
The Trebuchet is a rock firing weapon similar in principle to the catapult, but on a much larger scale and with a different mechanics. It is made with a large frame, and a huge arm. The arm is made to launch rocks and other projectiles into enemy defences for miles and causes great damage. The main drawback of the Trebuchet is that it takes the longest to set up of all Siege weapons, and fires slowly, but very powerfully, It is the most powerful Siege weapon on the game and deadly to enemy forts.
Siege Ladders - 5 for 100 gold
The ladder was one of the most primitive forms of getting into a city, a unit of men simply walked up to a wall and set the ladders up, climbed them and then fought on the walls or opened the gate. However getting to the wall was the tricky part as the ladders made the troops vulnerable to all sorts of attacks, meaning only use these if the enemy are either occupied or they cannot reach your men.
Ram - 2 for 200 gold
Simply a wooden frame, with a large wooden log which is able to swing via the gift of ropes. The men swing the ram back and forth into walls or gates to slowly weaken their defences, until it falls. It is an effective form of sieging, but vulnerable to most attacks due to there being no protection to the people inside.
Siege Ram - 2 for 350 gold
The Siege Ram was an improvement over the normal Ram. The frame was given a animal skin or some times, a metal layer, meaning attacks were less likely to effect the people inside. The Ram was also given a metal tip, meaning much more damage could be made to gates and walls.
Siege Tower - 2 for 650 gold
The Siege tower as it implies is a large tower used to siege a city. It has several platforms to it, the top being a bridge like structure so men can get onto the city walls to fight on them. The other areas are archer platforms where troops can fire into the defences of the city with relative protection from the walls of the tower. It is susceptible to a strong fire attack, but usually the men are able to fend off a lot of other attacks.
Sappers - 3 for 700 gold
Sappers were a very rare force on the battlefield. They would usually under the cover of darkness or with a defensive force of troops protecting them, go up to a wall or gate, and plant early explosives, slowly but effectively knocking chips out of the walls and severally denting or breaking the gates. It would take a few attempts, but it would eventually fall with minimal effort. They were intimidating to an enemy, if they were spotted, they were quickly aimed at else the city would fall.
Bridge Set - 2 for 200 gold
The Bridge set was simply large, reinforced wooden planks which could be set up in such a way to pass rivers if an army had no boats, and over valleys if it was too steep to risk crossing. It is very slow to set up, as it needs to be done with a rope system that requires a bit of preparation and time, and it limits to only a few to pass at once else it will collapse.
Wolf's Teeth Rack - 2 for 450 gold
These Defensive structures were basically wooden walls, reinforced with a metal frame, and with large metal spikes on one side. These could be placed into open gates and walls to provide defence against enemy troops wanting to get into a city. They are easy to break down with catapult fire.
Mouse Trap - 2 for 250 gold
The Mouse Trap is an invention rarely seen on the battlefield, it is simply a medium sized metal ball, like those in later ages seen fired from cannons. These were either tied or knotted up and thrown off the walls of cities to knock enemies climbing up ladders or to attack Rams and Siege Towers. They were tied to a rope which allowed them to be retracted and used over and over again.
