*Sun Qi had set up camp some miles outside of Yang Ding. He was in a large fortified camp, with wooden walls surrounding it. The camp had around 1,000 armed men in it, 500 being skilled soldiers. Sun Qi had guards on the four gates on each one of the four sides of the camp. Most of the men set around camp fires, patrolled, gambled among each other, or relaxed in their tents. They knew battle was going to come soon.*
*Qi sat in his main tent, with a soldier bringing him reports constantly. He was busy writting letters to various generals across the land, trying to bring men to his cause. He even wrote one to some one believed to be a relative of his.*

Cheng Yi "Scum!""My lord, worry not for our armies are powerful enough to defeat all!" "And what does our King think of this? This could be holding up the coalition!""..Reports came in that he has not received word, or something to that effect my Chief." "...Hmph, I tell you now, you can only rely on ones self in these times. Get Chang Ji! Tell the old scholar to begin building four catapults. Gather up some men and place them upon the walls facing our enemy. Prepare to move to the fort just south of our position, which will get us closer to our enemy! You! Send word to the several tribes in our province, tell them to report here now!"The messenger hurries off on horse back to warn the other tribes in Yang Ding that follow the Chieftain. A small fort lies just south of the city, practically between Yang Ding and Sun Fei's camp. It blocks off much of the path toward Yang Ding. Upon the walls the cool night air soaked the scene dry, two hundred Xiongnu Barbarians appearing upon the walls with hunter bows in their hands. Each held one rather large stick, its end coated in tar. Periodically upon the wall where small pots, coals burning inside of them. They were there for a reason, so the troops could spot their enemy in the night. Under the archers and inside the gate stood one hundred cavalry, equipped with a sword and a spear. They wore no armour other than their clothes, looking rather cheap even when compared to other Tribes. Behind them stood two hundred grunts, thatch shields attached to their left forearms with a sword in each hand. They looked fearsome, or possibly that was just the way the light from the fires reflected upon their faces. Either ways, they were prepared to die for their Chieftain, a man who had brought them up and strived for a new world. Though, his anger constantly got the best of him and he was not so certain with complying with other Chiefs and his King. He was rumored to be half Mongolian and half Xiongnu, but nothing was certain. The fort south of the small, walled city held two hundred bowmen just like in the city and a hundred horsemen alike with those in the city. They were on the three walls closest to the south, standing ten feet in the air with small charcoal pots before them, just like those in the city. They also had the same tar covered piece of would like their friends. Catapults were quickly being shaped up form the supplies. Two would be done very soon.. (One turn, NPC only) City: 200 Xiongnu Barb (Hunters Bows) 100 Horsemen (Horses-Spears-Swords) 200 Infantry (Two Swords-Thatch Shields) Fort/Forests: 200 Xiongnu Barb (Hunters Bows) 100 Horsemen (Horses-Spears-Swords)164

*Sun Qi finishs the finishing touchs on his last letter, and sends it out. The rest were sent awhile ago already, and should've been recieved by now by a few of the generals. Sun Qi walks out of his tent, looking at the bright sun.*
Sun Qi: Ah, the sun is bright. That is good!
*Sun Qi goes and finds his White Stallion, mounting it, and begins riding through his camp. Awaking his men, they quickly form up. The more skilled soldiers getting atop their horses, and the less skilled soldiers grabbing their weapons and standing up. They surround Sun Qi at the center of the camp and Sun Qi looks to them with a fierce look. He wore a purple turban on his head, with a purple cape on his back. His twin katanas were on his side, as the sun shined off his tannish yellow skin. Sun Qi speaks with a firm voice, trying to encourage his men.*
Sun Qi: Soldiers, each and everyone of you has sworn loyalty to me and my family. Some of you have served my family for many years now, each of you sharing a simular hate for the tyrannical Zhao dynasty. Well now we must raise arms, in open warfare, and attack the Zhao head on. But first, we must take a city from these pathetic barbarians, so we may have a launch pad to attack the Zhao dynasties cities. Every follower of Zhao will regret ever swearing loyalty to them. To battle men, glory and victory await us!
*Sun Qi drew his katana, raising it to the Sun, as it shined brightly. His soldiers raised their weapons and cheered, shouting Sun Qi's name. He leads them outside the camp and gets them in formation.*
*Sun Qi lead his men to the fort between them in the city. There Qi stops the army, out of arrow range, so they're safe. His troops were in formation, with 250 Fang Heavy Cavarly on each flank. All 200 Fang Spearmen formed a spearwall in the center, behind them the 200 Fang Swordsmen formed a box, with the 200 Fang Crossbowmen in the center of the box. Sun Qi lead in front on his White Stallion, with his katana in hand. Smiling he shouts to the soldiers in the fort.*
Sun Qi: Where is your leader? Is he to scared to come face the mighty Sun Qi in battle?

Late into the deployment of these mighty forces, a third could be seen slowly flanking that of Sun Qi's assembly. Two bodies would make up this third party, one fairly large while the other small. The smaller bringing up this party, however no matter what they was the same. Chariots, a driver and two people within the cart. Well excluding one odd cart which sat with only one in the cart, perhaps the third had fallen from sickness or injury? A thick overcoat of leather concealing the man's frame, that of a saber gripping tightly within his hand. Almost six feet long, and three inches thick he would grasp it within his hand. Quite a deadly weapon should this chariot plunge through a enemy formation. However the other carts could be seen with other armories. The driver and one of the men within the cart armed with crossbows, while the third with a long spear. Yet the larger party, which was dignified by their extra equipment, would have that of leather armor upon their form. Protection from projectiles.
Behind the formation of Sun Qi they would sit, sure to stay their own distance though to make sure no coups would happen upon his force. And so they would wait, the warlord of this group wishing to see what would unfold. However, a single man upon foot could be seen running to that of the assembly ahead. Oh to no army did he own allegiance, simply a farmer turned into a messenger. Quite quickly the exhausted farmer would explain of his coming, and he would pass over that of a letter. Only for him to sigh, telling of the army behind their ranks and how the letter was a offer.
Not waiting for any letter to bring back, slowly the exhausted farmer would return to where he came. However a leather bundle would be left behind, a scroll inside. {PM Incoming}

Fort is half way down along the path. You are at the beginning of the path if you're out of arrow range for this battle. From out of the fort comes a long pause, surely the men within it trembling from the fear of destruction, their egos ran dry and their minds put to waste with all of this waiting. The crossbows on the walls were hidden by the small wooden beams that came up from the front of the walls, or possibly within the fort itself waiting for their gates to be busted down. Eventually after a minute or so of waiting a loud voice rang out through the air, a man clearing his throat as he was out of view. "Fools! You can not tear down our walls, and you can not tear down our spirits! You will have to fight on our own grounds. Now come!"The fort waits, silent, waiting for the inevitable. They seemed to be stalling, most likely for reinforcements.. Three catapults appeared upon the city (edited, not specific enough the first time) walls with ammo already ready to fire. Wooden blocks shaped somewhat like balls where to sling through the air, though they were covered in tar and would be lit ablaze when their time was ready.

Sun Qi: Cowards!
*Sun Qi sends orders to Keva, then to his cavarly. 50 Fang Heavy Cavarly break off each flank, and move farther to the right and left, they then turn and move up the flanks of the fort, out of range of arrows, and then stop and wait out of range of arrows next to the road, waiting for the barbarian forces, if they try to retreat. Rest of Sun Qi's army remains in position, while Sun Qi continues to taunt them.*
Sun Qi: You pathetic barbarians have no honor! Come face me, Sun Qi!

A single arrow is let loose, and then another, and then another. They fall just short of Sun Qi and his front lines. The shots were random.

Rather quick at the sight of a onager's arrival, at once the party exploded into action. The two parties going in separate directions, one taking up the south east and the other south west past. Quite quickly the main body would make a dead line to that of the west Forest, all the while drivers and a cart occupant alike. A bolt that sat within the crossbow, would contain that of a small strip of cloth right below it's shaft. Several of these bolts, in same condition sitting within a quiver upon their hip. A torch which sat upon the chariot's sides for such event, would soon have these oiled soaked rags dipped within it. Once a fire flickered to life upon it's surface, the occupant of the cart quickly firing off in the direction of the walls. Giving a arch to it, so as to cut down of gravity's affect upon a projectile with a ranged shot. Meant to land in the general area of the onagers, or more hopefully these catapults themselves or their workers. While the driver would just give himself the occasional shot of a regular bolt at the walls, having the spear men reload for him as needed.
Hopefully without incident though, the main party would sit deep within that of the forest. Keeping a small pace within so as to not sit as a sitting duck for any such attacks from the fort.
However what of the small party which took up the south east pass? Skirting the forest they would go, the occupants of the carts ever firing off at the castle as they road. A attempt to damage these occupants of the walls. Though hopefully this small party would keep up it's trail, a desired location of the east woods hopefully acquired. For many minutes these men would reorganize, all the while slowly making their way to the northern tip of these woods. A single bolt, a flaming one to be more specific being shot off at that of the fields of the city, hopefully setting up that of a fire. This missile being fired off the carts within these woods would once again change location. Their next plan of action depending on the results of their small volleys.

Suppose I'll be easy with this. Also, the catapults are on the city walls, not the fort. I understand where you got confused in my last post. When I said walls I meant those of the city.
When You Can Not See, Your Enemy Can Not See
Such a simple statement, that any man, child or woman could understand. The night before when the main army prepared, darkness took to the fields and sky, blanketing the lands in one single sweep. The forts were closed up, and it'd be impossible to see anything other than a hundred meters out. During the night, the fort had emptied itself into the eastern forest, leaving but a few bowmen behind and the announcer for the Chief. And of course, their enemy had played right into their bold plot, their own courage now to come under fire as they flanked the fort, shooting for the forests. The east forest was all too quiet, crossbows hiding in the tree tops and some behind the tree trunks. The chariots quickly moved into the area. They reached the center of the small forest as the moved north and then hell came down upon them, the devil sending tipped bolts through both wood and flesh. The crossbows fired from above and to the chariot's fronts, hoping to slow them or push them further on. From their west arrived a long line of cavalry, pikes drawn strait ahead of them, waiting to hit the flank of the chariots. They would be doomed if they could not escape.
The fort began to burn from the crossbow fire, and eventually all would be able to tell what was happening in the eastern forests, and then they would know that their enemy no longer possessed the fort..
Losses: Cheng Yi: Fort- 20 Horsemen 20 Bowmen (on the ground mostly)
Keva: Eastern forest unit- 54 Charioteers 30 Militia upon chariots with charioteers

*Sun Qi saw the trouble in the eastern forests, and ordered his infantry in a new formation. They got in a box, with the 100 Fang Crossbowmen in the center, 50 Fang Swordsmen on each of the four sides of them, and then 50 Fang Spearmen on each of the four sides of them. Sun Qi orders those troops to move around the fire, towards the city, slowly. They're are not to get in arrow range. 100 Fang Heavy Cavarly are also near the city, out of arrow range, ready to battle.*
*Sun Qi leads 400 Fang Heavy Cavarly to the eastern forest, charging in, aiding the charioters. They begin battling the enemy cavarly, and attack the men in trees. Sun Qi is aiding them personally, with his twin katana's in hand.*

It was as the Nine Springs themselves, became the residing places of those charioteers that was lost, all confusion would break out amongst the ranks. However it was quickly regained as the time after the ambush passed, however pike men quickly threatened their rears.
The passengers of the carts would sink slowly down within their wooden boxes, using the bodies of their fallen as shields. Placing them above themselves as a rather crude shield, while those with crossbows shot from where was open while the spear men would thrust up at those who sat within the trees. It was however as the chariots, charged on. Horses having grown excited with all the frenzy about them, their speed would hopefully increase.
Hopefully exciting the woods, and into that of the woods. The spear men would now stand, grabbing the torches and bringing it to the fields as they rode past. However should they notice the cavalry chasing them, they would quickly take up position at the back of the cart, stabbing out and slashing out at those who pursued. While the cross bow men would stay under cover, shooting their flaming arrows at any pursuers, and into the crops. However presuming they managed to escape this ambush alive, and the pursuers was crushed. The party would quickly take up a position close to the wall, carts ever swerving to avoid any further attacks.
Bolts now focused upon any upon the walls, if possible firing their flaming bolts skywards, well angled as well of course. Hopefully landing somewhere within the city.
Yet this did not keep up as the whole of this group would start to give out yells of retreat, a ploy to hopefully trick any defenders into thinking they now retreated. Into the hills and forest behind the city they would roll, regrouping deep within the hills.

Post by Genjo Sanzo on Sept 23, 2006 14:05:09 GMT -5
After recieving a letter from his...accuintance, Sun Qi, Genjo Sanzo came with all haste to meet him on the battlefield.
"I dont see why I have to get brought into everything he does, all because he can't do anything right for himself..." he complained. "Im going to kill him if I dont get paid back for the ladders I had to buy..."
He had with him 200 bowmen, and 300...what could only be described as an angry riot, armed to the teeth with all sorts of cruel and wicked weapons...from bog standard spears, to maces, to clubs with nails and shrapnel jarring out. 6 men were assigned to carrying each of the ladders. The rest stood in smart, crisp formation.
Sanzo rode close to Sun Qi and called out.
"Sun, I have 25 ladders and 500 good men. Let me storm the walls first, and open a hole to finish them!"

((Just dialogue))
*Sun Qi looks back to Sanzo and smiles.*
Sun Qi: Yes, go storm the walls, my men will support you! Excuse me though, I'm a bit busy.
*With that last word, Qi cut down another enemy soldier, and continued to battle with his soldiers.*

Sanzo nodded, but said nothing to Qi. He turned and addressed his men though.
"Alright, we are taking that city, and we will be the ones to do it! Let the world know the Sanzo are not to be trifled with!"
With a roar, the men formed up. At the front, went the bowmen, in skirmish formation. In the middle, the ladders, with 6 men gathered around each one, and at the back, the rest of the infantry followed up, ready to take over at any of the ladders should anyone be hit with arrows.
They began to advance towards the fort, with the bowmen firing at the walls, pinning the enemy down, giving the ladders chance to move with less resistance from the walls.
The enemy would fire back, Sanzo was sure of, but there was nothing to fear. He would take the fort, and victory would be his.
The ladders were coming close to the walls, and Sanzo ordered them pick up the pace. The bowmen stood aside, and let the ladders pass through, but still kept up their firing. The ladders were massing on the left handside of the gate. "ESCALADE!!!" screamed Sanzo as the ladders went up. Each of the 25 ladders had a man sat in wait at the top, ready to pounce immediatly onto the walls. Most probably they would die, but their fanatical devotion overlooked this as a minor inconvenience. As soon as the ladders were propped up, they were beginning to be scaled by the attackers. The 25 men who had landed first thrashed and flailed with their weapons. From maces, to flails, to thick clubs with nails driven through them, they would wreak havoc on the defenders. Another 275 equally fearsome men waited at the foot of the wall, ready to climb up and join the slaughter.
Meanwhile, the archers ceased fire, for fear of hittings their allies. Instead, they got close to the wall, ready to climb the ladders and man the ramparts once they were cleared.

(Sanzo, those are swords you have and nothing more. A catapult can send a log farther than a crossbow can send an arrow, you are in range Matt.)
"Fire one... fire two... fire three.. fire four.. fire at will! Fire at will!"
The experienced commander yelled, the order to kill all unleashed as four tar covered wooden blocks shaped like balls came crashing into the field, their sharp edges ripping into the ground and before the chariots that moved from the eastern forests. These logs however were not normal logs, the tar allowing them to burn through the air and as they smashed across the ground. They left lines of fire pointing to where the first impacted into the ground, and then rolled toward their target. What came after this was a somewhat constant fire of arrows, one line of fifty arrows firing and then the next firing as the others reloaded. The 100 or so arrows came down quickly upon Keva's unit, wisping into their horses and killing their passengers. The slow, small box formation was then hit by two of the fiery wooden blocks, their speed sending them strait into the large line of troops, rolling through the compact places and moving through tons of men..
In the forest the cavalry had been obliterated, their enemy getting the best of them as they switched to swords simply so they could hack faster. Yet it was no help, the sheer numbers coming down upon them forcing blood out from their pores as they panicked and died as their situational awareness dwindled. The crossbowmen above however were much more fortunate, most of them still too far above to be attacked by spears and the like, even if from a horsemen. They fired down upon their enemy with little aim, though the horsemen proved to be easy targets. The blood began to rise in feet practically within he forest grounds, washing the land and leaving it a cold red..
Losses Cheng Yi: Forest/Fort troops- Horsemen gone, whipped out completely 100 Crossbows/Bowmen (Ground units finished off, only eighty remaining in the trees) Fort- 25 Crossbowmen
Sun Qi: Box Formation- 8 Crossbows 12 Swordsmen 10 Spearmen
Keva: Charging chariots (from east forest)- 10 Charioteers 20 Passengers (you decide if they are spear or crossbows)
