The siege was going to last longer then expected. The Zhao armies arrived just in time to keep the Cheng armies out of their walls and, because of suspicions from Yuan Shu and Du Jung, they agreed to have their showdown half the journey from Xiang Yang to Wan Cheng. A loss would be fatal, as the capital would lay exposed, but no los would be inflicted upon the victorious Cheng armies here today. Both Jiang Wei and Huang Zhong were going to be the first supporters here. And by the looks of things, Du Jung's army was more sound then action. A small pathetic army, not worth the mentioning in the hsitory books showed up at the other side of the battlefield and setted up camp. Yuan Shu watches Du Jung from afar, while stroking his beard. That was cased a lot of trouble in China and today Yuan Shu woudlf inally have the chance to rid the country of that self proclaimed Emperor.
Meanwhile, Ching Chong was at the head of the working group to construct a camp. Tents for food and shelter were place din position and fire beacons were set up. This battle could last until later in the evening and light was going to be the strongest ally of Cheng during the night. Who knows what Du Jung could be planning when the sun has thrown it's last rays onto the earth and hides away in the far west to take a good rest. Today, there would be no surprises. It would just go like any other battle the Cheng army had waged after the founding of the kingdom in Xiang Yang. No battle was lost, but Du Jung had not lost one battle either. Today, it wasn't just a battle of life and death. It was something far greater. It was a battle of pride.
Yuan Shu turns his steed, realzing that staring at the enemy camp would not bring the victory any closer. Things had to be done before his men would move into battle. Slowly Yuan Shu rides with his horse past the men, working at stockades. Luckily, Xiang Yang was close and thus they didn't have to wait too long for wood. And as the mountains made it almost impossible for the enemy to carry out an attack on the flank of the camp, the stockade would only be needed at the front. Not to use it in the battle, but just so that his men would sleep easier when sleep was needed. It was unknown how long today's battle would last, but both Du Jung and Yuan Shu understood this was not going to be a childish fight. Honour and pride was at stake and so requests would be accepted, if honourable.
By the time Yuan Shu had been expecting the build of his stockades and he was riding into the camp to find his main tent, Ching Chong comes walking over to him. Yuan Shu smiles, knowing the man was capable of doing any job. Ching Chong bows deeply for his lord and then looks behind him and points at the tents stationed in the rear.
"These are our food supplies, my lord. And even though it might look all dead, some of these tents are also tents of our men, so they can sleep among the food to protect it against who knows what. But do not fear, I have personally trained these men and they are with you since the founding of the Cheng kingdom. They will not grab the food and leave us to starve. I am willing to give my life for that."
Yuan Shu nods approving. The need for food was taken care off. The primairy defence of the camp was almost to be completed too. All that was to to now was await his officers to arrive. Yuan Shu turns his attention back to the battlefield. A quite outstrechted battlefield, but certainly not a wide one. This pass was only going to give passage to one of the current present factions. And no matter the cost, Yuan Shu was determined to be that one faction. But not for his own good. No, for the China Alliance!
(Stockades have been built at the top of square 11 and 12, with a wooden gate precicly in the center of it, which, when opened, gives passage for 100 men to walk next to eachother.)
