The heavy rain that fell proved that when a great man passes from this earth, even the Heavens themselves weep for him. This day, they wept for the mighty Huang Zhong.
A gathering of people from the Middle Kingdom, and even Nippon, stood below a platform. On the platform, a grand casket, decorated with gold, sat on a low table. His sword was laid across the top, his armor, carefully placed to one side.
A figure could be seen kneeling. He appeared to be speaking, perhaps to the spirit of the great man, but not a word could be heard over the driving rain and roaring wind. Suddenly, the figure stood, and the wind ceased. The figure was Shang Xilang, Baron of Si. He raised his eyes skyward, tears flowing freely. He began speaking again, this time he was heard clearly by all present.
"Lord Huang Zhong, you were truly a great man! Tales of your deeds will be passed through the generations. Your wisdom and foresight served you well. Your prowess in battle was unrivalled. If Heaven had ordained for you to serve by my side, then we could have ruled the empire. Instead, you served my enemy. Loyally you served your lord, and you died as a true vassal, unafraid. Let no man say that you were disloyal to surrender to Si. You refused to surrender, even to save your own life. But we cowardly dogs... we used your son and daughter against you. You chose death over betrayal, yet you surrendered your men to save your children. You... you are a greater man than any I have known. But I swear to you, noble one, that your son and daughter, shall be to me as brother and sister. I shall do all I can to keep them safe, laying down my own life, as you did. You were a hero for all the ages, slain by the trickery of a cur like me. I only hope that when we meet in the next life, you may forgive the blood on my hands..."
Xilang turned to face the crowd, but as he did, he was wracked with a fit of coughing so violent blood spilled from his mouth. Retainers rushed to his side, but he pushed them away vehemently.
"The ailment of a mongrel should not concern you on the day we honor a great man!"
He straightened. It was clear now that his health was failing. He bestowed upon Huang Zhong the titles of Filial Vassal, Grand General, Venerable Master, Lord of Ling Ling, and Lord of Gui Yang. He then descended the platform, in search of Huang Shu and San Yu.
(Anyone may post here to show their respects, but there will be no violence. Singularity of existance does not apply to this thread.)
