A Matter of Honour(Jian Ye Area)
After having dealt with a minister in Xia Pi Georg Prime decided to see just how many people were corrupt. He traveled throughout the Xia Pi region, failing to find any one else, he headed for the recently taken Jian Ye. He was sure he would find someone here. After all... Their lord seemed corrupt enough... Chances are corruption would run amok here.
Georg Prime entered a medium sized town. He rode through the town. He got many looks, but his breastplate clearly held the insignia of the Si Barony on it. Many people openly stared at him. They began to murmur among themselves. The Captain of the Si Guard went to an inn and got registered and paid for his nights stay in advance. The inn keeper was a plump woman probably in her mid 40's. Georg leaned on the counter, using his forearms to keep himself up.
"Would I possibly be able to get something to eat? I'm famished and haven't had anything but dry meat for the last 2 weeks..."
As the woman opened her mouth her voice held an almost careless tone to it. Sweet and niave... But something made Georg think she was anything but.
"Oh, yes right away. We just finished some of our famous soup."
Georg pushed himself off the counter and looked at her.
"Ahhh, sounds good."
Georg walked over to a table off in the corner and sat down. A serving maid came up to him and brought a cup of wine. She was young, possibly 28, 29... She had a full bosom, and was just the right height to make them not look out of proportion. She was a brunette and had a face that would make an angel sing.
"Why hello there..."
She smiled and gave out a soft laugh.
"Hello My Lord. My mother says all your wine is on the house. She wishes to treat our protectors and saviors with respect and honour."
Georg put his cup down after finishing off a quick drink. He leaned back against the wall.
"Saviors? Was the last Lord truly that bad?"
The girl's face changed immediately to a look of puzzlement.
"You mean... You mean your not here to get rid of the bandits?"
Georg sat up right.
"What do you mean? I haven't heard of any bandits. I came here on my own. Tell me what you know..."
The girl sounded unsure of herself. She began to walk away.
"My mother knows much more about this than I do. I shall go get her."
Georg's hand had unconsciously drifted to the sword held at his side. His left hand grabbed his wine and he took a long drink from it. The wine was good. Spicy, but too much. And quite hot. Just the way Georg liked it. Just as he finished his wine the inn proprietress came up to him. In her hands was a pitcher of wine. She poured him another glass.
"Umm... My Lord, what my daughter spoke of was something that has been going on for a very long time."
Georg motioned for her to sit down.
"Please take a seat."
She bowed and then backed away.
"I couldn't do that. Not in your Lordships presence."
Georg stood up.
"All these other people are sitting. Why shouldn't you? And, I will not sit until you do. Do you want to make a Lord stand?"
She took a seat almost immediately.
"So... Tell me everything that you can about these brigands."
The inn proprietress began to tell Georg Prime about a group of brigands that about, 2 months ago, began to terrorize the town. It happened just shortly before the siege upon Jian Ye. Merchants would be attacked. And very few goods would be stolen. Few would be even hurt. It confused the people. The petitioned the Governor to do something about it, but he claimed they were too big for the local garrison. The governor, one Liao Hua, claimed he had sent to request aid from the capital, but so far none had arrived. Then Georg showed up. Everyone rejoiced, thinking he had come to save them.
"I see... If you will excuse me."
Georg stood up and was just about to leave when the woman grabbed him.
"My Lord... My husband went off to try and deal with these men himself. That was a week ago. Please... Please save him... I'll do what ever you want... Just bring him back... If he is still alive."
Goerg looked back. The woman was almost crying. Georg gave her a hug.
"Don't worry... I'll get him back."
Goerg let the woman go then walked away. As he passed the same waitress who had served him he handed her a few coins, then left the inn. His first destination was the governors building. He made his way quickly across town. There was a sparse number of guards.
As Georg made his way up the steps his passage wasn't barred. Entering the building Georg saw a man busy sorting and signing papers.
"Lord Liao Hua. I am here to speak with you on the matter of these brigands."
The governor stood up. His hands were shaking a small bit,
"What? How do you... Ahh forgive me your Lordship. I am the governor of this humble town. I was overjoyed when I heard that the great Si Baron had taken Jian Ye. If I could have I would have raised up arms in this town to help fight back that oppressor of the people. However, the people of this town are not fighting men. My most humble apologies."
Goerg began to sift through some of the mans papers.
"I see... But what of these brigands. I want you to tell me exactly what you know."
The governor began to tell him basically all he had been told by the inn hostess. Georg was rather surprised. He thought a minister would have known more about a problem like this.
"I see... DO you know were they reside?"
The man bowed, it seemed he was doing his damnedest to make like a loyal subject in front a a man of Georg's caliber.
"Ahhh, yes, yes I do. They seem to be situated in the forest just north of the town."
"I want you 5 best soldiers to come with me."
The man bowed then backed away.
"Yes right away, they shall await your arrival at the east gate."
"Thank you."
Georg left the ministers building and proceeded to the east gate. What he saw there was five soldiers. Each looked like a veteran, or at least knew how to use their weapons. He gathered them up and then headed to the location he was told about. the six men reached the area and scouted it out. They found the camp and from what Georg could see there was only about 20 of them.
Georg signaled three of his men to head to the left, while Georg took the other two and headed to the right. Six men stood guard outside of one tent. At least on Georg's side. The two men with Georg moved forward and struck silently. Georg among them, took out two men with one slash from his sword, severing two mens spines. A small melee broke out, three men fighting three. The rest of their men tried to intervene but form the left side another three men entered the fray. Goerg finally took his man out, the two swords slid across each other, Georg's entering his opponents chest, his foes hitting between Georg's arm and side, slicing both open just slightly.
From a tent just slightly ahead of the fight four men exited, each holding a crossbow. Two bolts were shot off, one hit a man on Georg's side in the neck, another hit one of his men in the chest. Both fell. Two more were shot, hitting one of Georg's troops again, the other entering Georg's chest.
The pain was searing. The knights was brought to his knees. One of the soldiers tried to defend Goerg but was over taken by three men. In a last ditch effort, Georg deflected one blow, grabbed the mans wrist and threw him at his ally. The third man tried to hit Goerg over the head, but had a sword thrust through his own chest.
As Georg looked around his men were down. Only about 7 of the brigands remained. Georg was just about to get up, as three of his foes swords came down at him.
A clang of steel saved Georg. As he looked at who it was it was a man, he looked to be slightly starved, but an able fighter none the less. On the other side was Childerich.
"What the..."
Childerich took two of the men down as the other took the last down.
"Don't question just fight. I'll explain... Later... Over a bed of BLOOD! Hahahahha.... Shall we?"
Childerich ran at the men, along with the new comer. Georg tore the bolt out of his chest and joined the fray. The last of the men were taken down swiftly.
After the battle, the three men began to make their way back to the town. Childerich explained that he heard about the troubles on the coast of Xia Pi and wanted to join in the action. He followed Georg around, always a town behind him it seemed. The he heard fighting in the woods and rushed over. he saw one man trying to free himself from some bonds and CHilderich helped him out, then they came to Georg's rescue. It turns out that the man was the inn proprietor.
The three men made their way back to the inn. The inn proprietress greeted them warmly, and began to cry into her husbands shoulder. Georg and Childerich didn;t say anything. Just turned around and headed for the stable. The two men saddled their steeds and left the town.
