*The men, owing to their training and the fact that most of them had been in combat maneuvers earlier in the morning, were quickly assembled before the gate. A sea of spears, pikes, axes, swords and shields greeted Kong's eyes, the mid-morning sun glinting off of them at regular intervals as the men shifted the weight from one foot to the other in anticipation of another battle, and another victory under their commander. Kong motioned Da Wang over to him, and proceeded to have a quick conference.*
Da Wang, you are to head up the infantry divisions in this battle. I am taking the cavalry ahead of you, in case the armies already in the field are having difficulties of any sort. With your expert analysis of the battlefield, I have confidence that I've already formulated a few winning strategies. Much of my strategy hinges upon you, however, so make good time, my friend. Yan lives hang in the balance.
I will, my lord. Just don't end the battle before I arrive. Leave some glory for Da Wang!
*The men clasped hands briefly, and then Kong was away, calling for the cavalry to fall in behind him, which they did in short order, following the blue banner of the Thundering Ox southeastwards, to Xia Pi.*
