*On his tour through the city, Fabius had seen many Romans hard at work, and this gave him heart. However, they all seemed to be focusing on areas other than the heart of the technological machine of Roman ingenuity, the factories. An army can do nothing without proper equipment, he mused to himself as he trudged through the sweltering streets. Coming to a halt in front of the factories, Fabius took a moment to look things over. It wasn't much to look at; a long, low building of brick and wood. It'll have to do for now. Fabius squared his shoulders and entered the dark building. Looking around once his eyes adjusted, Fabius spotted a pair of Romans chatting hurriedly with the Chinese foreman.* "You there, Romans! May I have a word with you? Good. Now, I'm in need of a translator, since I've not been in this country for long, but I have work to attend to. Will one of you kindly assist me?" *Fabius continued immediately, not waiting for an answer. "Good! An excellent choice. Now, I need you to tell the foreman that first of all, no one can properly work in such horrid lighting conditions, and he needs to get a team of men working on installing skylights. What's that? Rain will get it? Hmmm, you may have a point. In which case, have the foreman also make awnings to fix that problem. Small ones should do the trick. I'll be back at the end of the day to check on your progress, and there may even be a reward in it for you, if you do well enough." *Fabius then turned on his heel and walked back out of the factory and out into the blistering sunlight. Sol Invictus, your light shall shine into even the darkest depths of this country... Fabius headed now to the barracks to see to the provisioning of his men, and then back to the manor after that business was concluded.* ((I'm assuming Intelligence is Wisdom, so the factories will go up at least 55, depending on the quality of my writing ))

The heavens seemed to have blessed them with a nice day as he slowly rode with his dark steed, Majere around the city of Yong'An. He stopped for a moment, looking towards some of his personal escort men and smiled mischieviously. They didn't train for a while, so something should be done about that, now and he ordered them to come stand by him with their armor on, they were to have a special training on that day.
They soon stood infront of Valius, who looked at them and then turned to the workers, pointing in that direction, a slight smirk opened his face.
I wish you to go there and help those workers, they seemed pretty exhausted, so you are to mix with them and help them on their actual task...I will eventually join in. But sir...with our armor we'll only become exhausted too quickly That's the whole idea, soldier...we haven't been training lately....we must be in shape for a battle at any time now.
The soldiers felt a little altered, but no one said anything about it. They were soon into the working grounds of the other men and began to split duties with them, having a long day's duty ahead of them, of that they already knew, but they were curious to know whether would their lord join in that duty or just watch.
They soon discovered that he would join them, but not in the exact moment they did, but worked just as hard as any other, maybe that was why everyone thought he was too much of a "people" person, and for that, he would never be known without his family name.
(Not the best post but well...there ya have it ^^')

Lessons in Iron
It was a faint sound, the gentle yet defined din of metal striking metal. At least, it was a faint sound when one listened for it at daybreak from the great Julii manor, before the world was awake, before Yong An was awake. As one drew closer to the smithy district, it naturally became more pronounced, creating a rather definitive clamor that was unique to the forges and the battlefield alone. Here the iron that shaped the weapons of the Roman Legions was made, birthed of liquid metal in shaping casts, anointed with the striking of a hammer.
And then there was the heat. The smoke of many fires mingled in the sky, hanging thickly over the district. In the cold of Yi providence, Felix could imagine that only the smiths and the dead had no real complaints. The workers were mostly of Chinese origin, though many of the masters were, thankfully, Roman. In addition to providing for the army, the smithy also dealt with domestic production, making and fixing tools, repairing houses and designing new ways to strengthen the metal they work with.
”Uh, excuse me, General?” came a voice at his side. Felix turned and stood face to face with a pasty young man who he could only guess worked for the Roman overseers.
”A rather inappropriate greeting…” Felix replied, allowing a hint of menace to creep into his voice. The youth responded by growing a shade whiter and swallowing against a thick lump that had suddenly formed in his throat.
Felix let his response hang in the air a moment and then nodded, his expression one of forced patience.
”Now then, what is it?”
”Some of the Chinese are fighting with the masters. They sent me to find someone to help resolve the issue.”
Not even bothering to respond to the boy, Felix took off towards the factory at a brisk walk, Faustus trailing behind him. When they arrived, they found the very scene that Felix had hoped they would not. A very angry Roman-born man stood over a Chinese worker, who was sprawled on his back, holding his hands up as if to ward further beatings from the whip that his assaulter held in his hands.
”If someone would be so kind as to explain the situation to me?”
His simple request went unanswered for a moment, but then slowly the story came out. The Chinese had been using a technique that was unfamiliar to the Romans when it came to making the swords that would eventually be used to arm the Roman Legions, and the overseer suspected sabotage. When pressed, the Chinese man was quick to offer his assurances that this was not the case, but when he was asked to explain, he was unable to, since the fear of being beaten had muddled his tongue.
”Very well, for the moment, let these men continue their work,” Felix decreed and then held up a hand to forestall comment from the overseer. ”These men are Roman citizens now, and if they have committed a crime that merits punishment, they will be punished in accordance with the law. I want these Chinamen to prepare a detailed report of what it is they are doing that is so different, and then, after it is reviewed, we will continue with this case if need be. In the meantime, my son and I are here to help, how may we assist the factory?”
It was not the answer that they wanted to hear, but the Romans could do nothing about it. Not even bothering to conceal their distaste, they mentioned that a good pair of hands was needed to help repair farming tools. Faustus volunteered for the task, allowing Felix to focus on a task of his own: working with the overseers on consolidating and expanding the Factory to better meet the needs of the growing city.
