Wei Yan marvled at the grand city before him as he approached the guards at the main gates. Yan had seen this city only a handful of times in his life and still thought it to be extraordinary every time he met eyes with it.
"I am Prefect Wei Yan, and I have arrived to defend Xiang Yang from any assualts that could occur during the invasion of Wancheng."
Yan told the guards from horseback. The guards looked at each other before looking back to Yan. Nodding to Yan and motioning to the guards atop the gate Yan was allowed passage into the city. Yan Looked to his men as they entered.
"When Night Falls, You are all to relieve the guards of their duties and we'll work the night shift to keep the city guard awake and alive with energy. Now go and rest, for tonight Xiang Yang depends on you!"
Yan called and his men nodded as they all moved to the stables or to the barracks to ready themselves for their rest. Soon all the men were in the barracks and resting as Yan headed towards Xiang Yang Palace.
Yan arrived and looked at the two guards at the door. Yan knew his weapons wouldn't be liked, but this was in a time of turmoil and Yan only ment to Protect his dear lords nephew.
"Grand guards of Xiang Yang, allow me and my men passage into Xiang Yang's Marvelous Palace. I wish to be at Yuan Yin's side till Yuan Shu is to return. For he is most likely to be Yuan Shu's successor and I fear the battle will turn south soon unless morale is raised."
Yan told the guards respectfully. The guards thought it over for quite sometime before finally nodding and allowing passage to Yan and his guards. Yan walked the halls of Xiang Yang Palace before entering the hall of Yuan Yin. Bowing before his lord's nephew Yan spoke.
"Lord Yuan Yin. I fear the battle at Jing Pass may quickly be lost if Morale is not raised. This being said I sent a very outstanding officer to Lord Yuan Shu's aid. I myself have taken on the task of protecting you personally. Me and my most trusted guards shall defend your lives with our own."
Yan finished before moving up and standing beside Yuan Yin, blade in hand. Nothing was going to touch his lord's successor.
The hours passed and finally Yan heard the news he had hoped for. Ran Vu and the rest of Wei Yan's army had arrived and were setting up defenses. With a smile Yan waited for Ran Vu to arrive at the palace which he did in the same fasion as Yan except for no guards. Ran Vu took his place on the opposing side of Yuan Yin without a word. Vu still thought himself to be a peasent blacksmith with no right to speak to Yuan Yin.
As dusk was finally arriving Yan's men did as they were told. Relieved all the guards of Xiang Yang of their duties, except The palaces personal guards, as to keep an alive and awake guard unit working. Archers went to the wall. Spearmen, Swordsmen, and Calvary meshed along the city streets patroling the city. His seige engines were moved to defend the city as well since they were not taken down. The arbelasts were set up outside the barracks, as too keep the relief guards safe, they were lined up Along the sides of of the road diagonal of each other facing in on the road. If anyone tried to enter into the barracks, they would be mowed down. The siege towers were set up along the sides of the road that led to the Palace. On opposing sides of the rode facing in at each other. Archers manned 3 levels of the towers.
As soon as everyone was in place Yan's men did the unthinkable. The guards along the wall dropped the Cheng flags and raised Si flags!
A rukus came from the city and Ran Vu stepped forward to see what it was. Yan stepped before Yuan Yin, placing himself between his lord and the door. Vu readied his axe just incase anyone was to break down the door, and soon he brought the axe barreling into a Cheng guard who stood by the door. Yan's guards men turned in on their Cheng counter parts and began attacking them suddenly and completely off guard, Vu assited int his treason. Yan only turned and smirked at Yuan Yin holding out "Sinner" towards him.
"Cheng has fallen. Si will rise from it's pathetic remains into glory. Let your last pitiful sight be that of my lord's greatness!"
Yan told Yuan Yin as he took his free hand and pulled a Si flag from below his armor. Shaking his head Yan pulled back and brought the vicious blade across his body toward's Yuan Yin, certain death was all that was at hand, and when Yuan Yin fell Yan would cover his body with the Si banner.
"My Dear Friend For Your Dear Nephew Yuan Shu. My Vengence Has Been Fulfilled."
Yan told himself. The unarmed men Yan had brought took the weapons of the Cheng guards and began attacking them viciously with them. If any did make it outside, Yan's men fell to them like a Falcon to it's prey. The arbelasts were manned as they should be, and men who left the barracks were immeidately mowed down. If they did survive the arbelasts they were attacked by the street guards. When people would flee the palace the archers in the Towers would rain the tears of the heavens down upon them. None would forget this day. This was to be the triumph of Si!
